Thank You - 10th Annual Dog Wash
August 1, 2006
CHS 10th Annual Dog Wash Was a Real Big SPLASH!
Saturday, July 22 turned out to be a beautiful day to wash dogs! Countryside Humane Society volunteers washed over 295 “dirty” dogs and raised over $6,000. An all-time record! An estimated 540 people attended this year’s wash. Several pet owners told volunteers that the dog wash is the only time their
dog(s) gets a bath.
For the past ten years, Dennis Stewart owner of Havahart Pets has sponsored the Dog Wash to help the animals at Countryside. This was the eighth year that employees from Shaggy’s Grooming volunteered their services by cleaning dog’s ears and clipping nails. The staff at Racine Veterinarian Hospital did such a great job selling dog spa packages all were gone by noon. This was the first year for Rebecca Moravec, an animal communicator, to attend. Rebecca’s appointment book was filled almost immediately. Thanks to Countryside’s Project Coordinator, Rita Klinkhammer, the event keeps growing with new and inventive ideas.
It takes a lot of volunteers and community support to successfully run a fundraiser of this nature. We at Countryside are so grateful for everyone’s support. Our thanks to Stein Garden Center, Century Floors and Jose’s Blue Sombrero for the hoses and water hookup. We are also very grateful to FOX 6 News for the TV promotion and coming the day of the wash for a live broadcast. We hope everyone that attended had a “howl’n good time!”
